Edit in response to your edit: In the american tongue it is pronounced Zee which sounds like Cee as C and Z both letters are pronounced with the same shape of the mouth, only one is pronounced with more of an emphasis on the upper part of the mouth and the other is more emphasized on the lower part of the mouth. No one really says zed unless they're specifically trying to NOT say zee (example, in school) Not Canadian but I'm from the UK and we call him "Jay Zee" even though pretty much everybody here uses "Zed". If it's somebody's name/nickname you would tend to pronounce it however they pronounce it.

But Jay-Z is a person's name and should be pronounced how that person wants it to be pronounced, which is "Jay-Zee". And "Zed Zed Top" just sounds terrible. Seriously, it hurts to say it like that.
